words about the artist and her work:
Jennifer Kane is a professional artist and painting instructor. She grew up in the scenic Shawnee National Forest area of Southern Illinois. Her education includes a BFA in Painting and MFA in Costume Design from the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign. She moved to central Pennsylvania in 1992, and began a career in landscape painting in 1999. Her work has since appeared in many regional juried shows and exhibits. Highlights include being juried into the Art of the State show in Harrisburg, PA several times, and being an invited artist and award winner at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College, PA. In 2004, her work was selected with a purchase prize to represent her community by the Knight Foundation Corporate headquarters. In 2005, one of her paintings was selected as first prize for the category of oil painting in the state of Pennsylvania for the book, 'Best Of Pennsylvania Artists'.
You may be wearing her work, as her Glory painting was the official Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts tee shirt design in 2005.
Jennifer is currently teaching oil painting at the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania. In the past she has taught art and theatre at the University of Illinois, Penn State University, Juniata College, the Greer School of Pennsylvania, the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, and through private lessons at her studio.
While practicing theatre, Jennifer designed costumes for opera, theatre, and dance concerts. She also worked as a tailor, crafts person, painter/dyer, and draper at professional theatres such as Hartford Stage, Connecticuit, University of Illinois summer repertory season, Colorado Shakespeare Festival in Boulder, CO, Northern Illinois University, Allegheny Highlands Regional Theatre, Hope Summer Repertory Theatre in Holland, MI, and Pennsylvania State University Centre Stage.
